2015 Ford F-150
By Anthony Alaniz
Ford has unveiled the 2015 Ford F-150 at this year’s North American International Auto Show. This is an important vehicle for Ford. While continuously being the brands biggest seller, it has a long history of being the number one selling vehicle in America. So, when Ford set out to design the 2015 model, the pressure was on to create a vehicle that was not only true to the “Built Ford Tough” mentality, but revolutionary as well, especially with ever increasing fuel economy standards.
One of the biggest, and most controversial improvements to the 2015 F-150, is its extensive use of aluminum, which has cut nearly 900 pounds from the previous model’s weight. That’s a huge improvement, letting the vehicle’s weight slip beneath the 5000-pound mark.
Styling is reminiscent of the Atlas Concept from last year’s North American International Auto Show—and that’s a wonderful thing. It looks powerful, yet elegant, and that mentality seeps into the restyled interior. The interior looks rugged, yet luxurious. It will look wonderful in the higher-trimmed models.

The engine lineup gets a reshuffling as well. Only one V-8 engine is available, the 5.0-liter Coyote engine. The base V-6 engine is downsized to 3.5-liters from 3.7, and the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine is still available. New to the lineup is a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine. No power figures for any of the engines are available yet.
Power will be sent through a six-speed automatic transmission, yet the new 10-speed transmission being developed jointly with General Motors should make an appearance in the truck in the next few years.
Another addition to the F-150 is features. Safety features like lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, second-row seatbelt airbags, and its signature Curve Control electronic stability control program are all available. Other neat features include adaptive cruise control, LED spotlights for the bed and side mirrors, a 360-degree parking camera, trailer-hitch assist, and a remote-locking tailgate.
Ford hasn’t released the pricing for the 2015 F-150, but the truck should be on dealership lots later this fall.
