Los Angeles Plan To Reduce Serious Traffic Crashes

Los Angeles Plan To Reduce Serious Traffic Crashes

By Anthony Alaniz

Los Angeles police presented a plan before the L.A. Police Commission in hopes of reducing the number of fatal and serious injury traffic collisions in the city by 10 percent this year.

“I think anything is attainable,” Tyler Izen, L.A. police union president, said in an interview with Southern California Public Radio. “It might require much more than the Los Angeles Police Department. It might require every citizen out there. It might require all of us to give up our phones while we’re in the car.”

Already, about 110 officers have been asked to voluntarily move to traffic enforcement assignments at one of the department’s four bureaus across the city in an effort to help reduce those types of crashes.

“The bottom line is this: When I lose friends who are police officers or family members – when I lose them to traffic collisions – it is no less a loss than when I lose them to violence,” Izen said in an interview with Southern California Public Radio.

Naked Man Stops LA Traffic After Climbing On Roof Of Tesla

Naked Man Stops LA Traffic After Climbing On Roof Of Tesla

By Anthony Alaniz

A naked man stopped Los Angeles traffic Tuesday by ripping off his clothes and dancing on his car’s roof. In a video uploaded to YouTube, firefighters are seen trying to coax the man down. According to Teddy Bliss, who identified himself as the video’s cameraman, said the video he filmed was just a small portion of the chaos that ensued.

“This all started when the guy driving the Tesla stopped in the middle of the PCH and jumped out of the car! Running around waving a shirt, acting like something was wrong with his Tesla,” he wrote in an email to the New York Daily News.

The naked man then jumped back into his car, driving wildly through traffic before crashing into a MIni Cooper. By that point both firefighters and ambulance personnel were at the scene. Police arrived shortly thereafter and helped load the man onto a stretcher.

Capt. Scott, of Pacific Palisades FIre Station 69, said the man may have had a “meltdown or psychiatric episode or was on a controlled substance.”

The identity of the man hasn’t been released.

LAPD Gets a Lamborghini Gallardo, Crooks Watch Out

LAPD Gets a Lamborghini Gallardo, Crooks Watch Out

The Los Angeles Police Department unveiled its latest, fastest and least reliable pursuit vehicle to the masses this week via the photo sharing website Instagram, a Lamborghini Gallardo. Granted, the Gallardo will only be used for promotional purposes as it is on loan. Don’t expect it to by flying down the 101 Freeway.

The owners of the Lamborghini Gallardo, Nathalie and Travis Marg of Light Source 1 inc., donated their Gallardo to appear at charitable events for the LAPD Air Support Team, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The Gallardo is decked out in traditional LAPD-scheme—black and white color combination.  “To Protect and to Serve” is written on its sides for an added level of intimidation.

“You can run, but you can’t hide. Makes you wanna join #LAPD, doesn’t it?” LAPD’s Rampart Division said in an Instagram post.

A 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo has a starting price of about $182,000—chump change, really. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, no tax dollars were spent on the vehicle.

The Gallardo is expected to make its first appearance at the Los Angeles County Air Show at Fox Field in Lancaster on March 21-22.

Green Cars For Rent Fill Los Angeles Niche

Green Cars For Rent Fill Los Angeles Niche

By Anthony Alaniz

MPG Car Rental sets itself apart from the competition by offering only green cars to rent in Los Angeles. While other rental agencies offer some green vehicles, MPG Car Rental focuses solely on the green-car niche.

MPG Car Rental emerged from California Car Rental after the owner saw potential in offering only green cars. He then made the switch.

Offerings include the expected Toyota Prius, along with the Chevrolet Volt, Volkswagen’s clean-diesel models and the Tesla Model S.

Other car rental companies like Hertz offers its “Green Traveler Collection,” which offers a variety of environmentally friendly models. What makes MPG Car Rental a lucrative business is its proximity to the airport, something other companies don’t have the advantage of.

Even with being close to the airport, local residents also take advantage of what cars MPG Car Rental has to offer.

“I needed a car. My car was going into the shop, and I found these guys right in the neighborhood,” said Laura Lee, a local business owner, in an interview with KABC Los Angeles. “It’s very affordable.”

If a customer rented a Toyota Prius and wants to own one, MPG Car Rental will give the customer a voucher so they can go to an affiliated dealership and receive a reimbursement of a rental that’s taken off the purchase price

While green cars may be a niche in the automotive world, companies like MPG Car Rental offers a great service for the environmentally conscious.

Alleged Bitcoin Founder Chased By Reporters

Alleged Bitcoin Founder Chased By Reporters

By Anthony Alaniz

Earlier this week, Newsweek alleged Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto was the creator and founder of Bitcoin, the new, anonymous cryptocurrency.

In the ensuing media frenzy trying to identify the mysterious man, Nakamoto left his home to ride around Los Angeles in a car with a reporter while being chased by several other reporters.

Nakamoto rode with a reporter for the Associated Press, according to Los Angeles Times reporter Andrea Chang. Nakamoto spoke with Chang and he denied being the creator of Bitcoin.

Nakamoto lives in Temple City, Calif., and journalists staked themselves outside his home when the Newsweek report was published Thursday.

Bitcoin was founded in the late 2000s, and has gained popularity as an anonymous and decentralized international currency. The founder and creator of Bitcoin has remained a mystery, though many suspect the creator uses “Satoshi Nakamoto” as a pseudonym.

Many within the Bitcoin community were upset that Newsweek tried to identify the creator.

It looks like we are no closer to learning the identity of the creator and founder of Bitcoin.

A woman was killed last week after she was beaten outside a Santa Ana nightclub. According to authorities, Pham was attacked on the morning of Jan. 18 as she stood in line outside The Crosby Club.

When officers arrived, they found her unconscious. She died Tuesday after being taken off life support.

According to one of Pham’s friends, the confrontation may have started when Pham unintentionally stepped into another group’s photo.

“I can’t imagine it starts with someone interrupting a photo,” her father, Dung Pham, said in an interview Sunday with The Los Angeles Times. “I don’t know what to think.”

Pham graduated from Chapman University with a degree in psychology and was married a year ago this month.

Police have arrested two suspects and are looking for another person of interest in the incident.

Last week, Vanesa Tapia Zavala, a 25-year-old of Santa Ana, pleaded not guilty to murder in connection with Pham’s death. She is being held on $1-million bail.

Police have released the names of the second suspect or of the other person being sought, officials said. The incident is still under investigation.

2015 Ford F-150 revealed

2015 Ford F-150 Revealed

2015 Ford F-150

By Anthony Alaniz

Ford has unveiled the 2015 Ford F-150 at this year’s North American International Auto Show. This is an important vehicle for Ford. While continuously being the brands biggest seller, it has a long history of being the number one selling vehicle in America. So, when Ford set out to design the 2015 model, the pressure was on to create a vehicle that was not only true to the “Built Ford Tough” mentality, but revolutionary as well, especially with ever increasing fuel economy standards.

One of the biggest, and most controversial improvements to the 2015 F-150, is its extensive use of aluminum, which has cut nearly 900 pounds from the previous model’s weight. That’s a huge improvement, letting the vehicle’s weight slip beneath the 5000-pound mark.

Styling is reminiscent of the Atlas Concept from last year’s North American International Auto Show—and that’s a wonderful thing. It looks powerful, yet elegant, and that mentality seeps into the restyled interior. The interior looks rugged, yet luxurious. It will look wonderful in the higher-trimmed models.

The engine lineup gets a reshuffling as well. Only one V-8 engine is available, the 5.0-liter Coyote engine. The base V-6 engine is downsized to 3.5-liters from 3.7, and the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine is still available. New to the lineup is a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine. No power figures for any of the engines are available yet.

Power will be sent through a six-speed automatic transmission, yet the new 10-speed transmission being developed jointly with General Motors should make an appearance in the truck in the next few years.

Another addition to the F-150 is features. Safety features like lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, second-row seatbelt airbags, and its signature Curve Control electronic stability control program are all available. Other neat features include adaptive cruise control, LED spotlights for the bed and side mirrors, a 360-degree parking camera, trailer-hitch assist, and a remote-locking tailgate.

Ford hasn’t released the pricing for the 2015 F-150, but the truck should be on dealership lots later this fall.

Deceptive advertising charges filed against Los Angeles County dealerships by FTC

Los Angeles County car dealerships settle with FTC over deceptive ads

Source: Forbes

By Anthony Alaniz

The Federal Trade Commission has charged four Los Angeles Cunty car dealerships alleging they used deceptive advertising tactics. The deceptive ads were an apparent tactic to lure customers into showrooms.

Casino Auto Sales, of La Puente, Rainbow Auto Sales, of South Gate, Honda of Hollywood, in Los Angeles, and Norm Reeves Honda in Cerritos, were among the car dealerships charged, according to the FTC.

No fines or penalties were brought against the dealerships, though a violation of the consent order will result in a $16,000 fine per violation per day, said the FTC.

Allegedly, some of the advertisements would promote low cost vehicles, but the fine print would hide hidden fees, taxes, and down payments.

“You should never have fine print disclaimers that are inconsistent with any prominent claims your making, that’s deceptive,” said Jessica Rich, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, in an interview with the Los Angeles Daily News. “It doesn’t cure a misrepresentation to have fine print disclaimers that nobody can read or understand. It’s still deceptive.”

An Advertisement from Casino Auto Sales, provided by the FTC, stated a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe LS was priced at $17,995. Buried in the fine print was a $5,000 down payment, though it was unclear if the down payment was part of the $17,995 price or an additional fee.

This is part of a larger operation by the FTC called “Operation Steer Clear.” Six other dealerships across the country have been charged.
